Case Study: An Example to Explore (Literature)

Source: KRAIFI, N. (2019). Guilt and atonement in Khalid Housseini’s The Kite Runner.

  • Case: The case of the Kite Runner novel by Khalid Housseini.

  • The type of case study is a single case study, which is evidently for practical reasons (a Master's dissertation has a very limited time frame and everything needs to be gathered quickly, so it was critical to keep this study to one element through one case to maximise time). Despite these pragmatic considerations, it is still possible to be intentional when choosing a single case and explain the reasons for selecting that particular case. The Kite Runner, for example, was widely studied as a unique case since it was the first novel by an Afghan-American writer.

    • Focus: Guilt and atonement.
