  • About the Module

    The module aims to introduce students to the theoretical background of research in the field of human sciences and applied linguistics.

    Course Objectives:

    By the end of this academic year, students should be able to: 

    1-    Understand the specialised terminology and concepts related to the field of research.

    2-    Highlight the importance of knowing how scientific research is conducted.

    3-    Recognise the different data collection tools.

    4-    Highlight the importance of understanding the APA and MLA schools of Citation.

        In preparation for this week's session, students are required to read the enclosed article (The first two pages shall be a great starting point). Please take notes and bring them to class to enrich the discussion. 

        Also, make sure that you watch the attached YouTube video. Note anything you find interesting from the video.

        Before this week's lecture, you should focus on reading the materials I have included (For the fundamentals of quantitative research article, please keep it to pages 2 to3). The readings will not be directly referred to in the lecture; instead, they have been chosen to orient you to the discussion as a whole. 

        The third resource is a brief YouTube video you are required to watch on the differences between quantitative and qualitative research. 


        Please make sure that you bring in your notes to the classroom discussion.
